Dr. David Venable is the founder of the Institute for Strategic Risk and Security and serves as its Chairman and President. He has over twenty-five years of experience in international security, intelligence, and cybersecurity across government, private sector, military, and think tanks; and has served as a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and security advisor for Fortune 100 and Global 500 companies.
Previously, Venable led and managed U.S. national-level projects supporting global counterterrorism and intelligence operations within the U.S. intelligence community. In addition to his operational work, he has taught cybersecurity and cryptography at Southern Methodist University and the U.S. National Cryptologic School.
A sought-after keynote speaker and author, Venable regularly presents on security and intelligence topics at major global conferences, including the G20 Summit, NATO forums, and Black Hat. His work has been cited by leading publications such as Harvard Business Review, Forbes, the BBC, and Bloomberg Businessweek, and was featured in the Tribe of Hackers series.
David holds a doctorate in cybersecurity and has received several awards from the U.S. Air Force and National Security Agency. In 2019, he was named one of the most influential people in cybersecurity by Security Magazine.
